“Tlhopa Botswana!” Competition award ceremony [fr]
The cooperation and cultural action department of the French Embassy organized, in partnership with the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) of Botswana, the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany and the European Delegation, a competition on democracy entitled: “Thlopa Botswana!” (Vote Botswana !). Six junior and secondary schools from Botswana, hosting democracy clubs, were selected by the IEC to participate in the competition.
The candidates had to submit a contribution of their choice (essay, poem, song, painting, logo) to express their understanding of democracy. Of all the pupils who participated, only 36 were selected to attend the ceremony along with their respective headmaster or teacher.
The award ceremony took place on October 9th, 2014, in the premises of Alliance Française. More than sixty guests attended among which the three partner ambassadors, the Deputy Permanent- Secretary and directors of the Ministry of Education and Skills Development, headmasters and teachers of the six schools as well as members of the diplomatic corps.
After opening the ceremony with speeches on democracy, the three partnering Ambassadors and a high representative of the IEC awarded the three winners with prizes. Trophies were also awarded to the three best schools. Finally, all 36 participants received a consolation prize considering the excellent quality of all contributions.
