Reception for the Botswana Defence Force recipients of a French language Diploma [fr]
The Ambassador of France, H.E. Mrs. Anne de la Blache, hosted a reception at the Residence of France on Monday 19th May 2014 for the Botswana Defence Force members having successfully passed a French Test. Hon. Dikgakgamatso Seretse, Botswana Minister of Defence, Justice and Security, was the guest of honour of this event.
The Honourable Minister and the Ambassador seized this opportunity to recall the successes of French-Botswana military cooperation. In September and October 2013, 21 BDF personnel followed a 72h French course at Alliance Française, and 90% of them successfully passed their Diploma of French as a Foreign Language (DELF).
Considering the outstanding results of the BDF students, one BDF member was invited to take part in an Advanced French Training Course in France from October 2013 to January 2014. For the year 2014, the amount attributed to this French teaching cooperation has been doubled.
As a member state of the Southern African Development Community, Botswana is part of the SADC stand-by brigade, whose official languages are English, Portuguese and French. The French training courses were designed to improve the coordination on the ground between the BDF and other regional armies.
