Meeting with Ms Tumi Sejoe, director of the first Motswana movie at the Cannes Festival
For the first time in its history, a movie from Botswana will be presented at the Cannes Film Festival in France. The Embassy of France had the opportunity to meet Mrs. Tumi Sejoe before her departure.
It is her first movie made as a director and it was important for her to speak of her country and its culture in the Awakened Spirit. The movie was shot in Setswana and can be described as a journey between the modern world and the ancestral lifestyle in a traditional Motswana setting.
The movie’s aim is to present the country’s culture both to the people of Botswana and at an international level. It will be the first time that Ms. Sejoe travels to France. She is looking forward to discovering France and taking part in the prestigious Cannes Film Festival. She hopes this visit will be a door opener for Botswana in the film industry. Although Botswana has great talents, she thinks that the country should be more present in the movie world.
