French Language Diploma Award Ceremony to 10 SADC Staff Members [fr]

On the occasion of the DELF (Diploma of Study in the French language) Diploma award for SADC Staff members, H.E. Mrs Anne de La Blache, Ambassador of France to Botswana, Special Representative to SADC, hosted a reception at the Residence of France on Friday, March 21 2014.

This reception took place in the framework of the technical cooperation agreement on the reinforcement of the use of French in the SADC, signed in 2007, between the SADC Secretariat and the IOF (International Organization for Francophony). This agreement aims at promoting multilingualism and at improving the use of French in the SADC Secretariat.

Since 2007, an ambitious French teaching programme for staff members of the SADC Secretariat has been implemented by the Alliance Française de Gaborone. Among the 20 staff members who studied French last year, 10 successfully passed their DELF. The diplomas were presented by SADC Executive Secretary, Dr Stergomena Lawrence Tax, during this reception.

French is one of the three official languages of SADC, and 5 of the 15 SADC member states are members/observers of the OIF.
