French Embassay supports an orphan/vulnerable children pre-school
The French Embassy to Botswana is assisting a center and pre-school in Maun for orphans and vulnerable children, «Motse wa Tsholofelo Orphans and Vulnerable Children day care». This school which is owned by a Gaborone-based NGO, takes care of children from the Maun area, aged from two to six, providing them with care, food, educational activities and psycho-social support.
To help the school in its development and in addressing the daily challenges it meets, the Embassy has provided a grant of 17200 BWP. The French Ambassador, HE Mrs Anne de la Blache accompanied by members of her team, handed over the cheque during a small ceremony on November, 2, 2015.
It was the third visit to the center of the Ambassador who recalled it in her speech and stressed that the future of a country is directly linked to its children, that helping these young children who start their life lacking the comfort of a caring household, was helping the development of Botswana. She said that engaging with the civil society and standing up for its most vulnerable members was a priority for the Embassy. She congratulated the founders, the managers and the staff of this center for what they have achieved and for their commitment to the development of this project that the French Embassy is glad and proud to support. The Ambassador also encouraged the managers to reach out to the private sector for a better financial sustainability.
Motse wa Tsholofelo’s board chairman and founder, Mr. Gabatshwane Kgathi thanked the Embassy , stressing that due to financial challenges, the Centre was not able to welcome as many children as they could while there is a concern about the growing number of vulnerable children in Maun and the villages around. He said that this support and this grant from the French Embassy was giving sense to the name of the school which means “the village of hope”.
