Fight against climate change: Laurent Fabius participates in the 20th climate conference [fr]
Mr. Laurent Fabius, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development, is attending the Conference of the Parties (COP) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, from 9 December, in Lima.
As indicated by Mr. Fabius, France’s action will be mobilized by three watchwords: Urgency, ambition and hope.
Urgency is first, because scientific analysts and current observation show that there are increasingly alarming climate discrepancies, due to greenhouse gases. Sea levels are rising quickly, heat is increasing, and extreme climatic phenomenon multiply.
Ambition comes in second. The objective of Lima’s conference is to begin with identifying points of agreement, and to define a common methodology for national contributions, that each country ought to present during the first semester 2015.
Finally, hope. That is partly because Europe, the United States and China have already made some commitments. The conference of Lima represents a determining step, in order to achieve a universal agreement in Paris, in December 2015 (COP21) to fight against climate change. Mr. Laurent Fabius and the French delegation will officially launch its preparation in Lima on December 12th. France is mobilized in order to make « Paris Climat 2015 » a success, because it will be the largest conference ever hold in France.
