Economic workshop at the Residence of France

The members of the FBBC, the head of the department of economic affairs for Southern Africa (Mr. William Roos), and the regional director of Business France (Mr. Axel Baroux) gathered at the residence of France on May 8th for an economic workshop held under the theme “new leadership in Botswana – expectations and opportunities for the France-Botswana Business Club”. The idea was indeed to reflect on the first announcements made by the new administration, particularly during President Masisi’s maiden speech and Minister Kenewendo’s address at the residence on the occasion of the reception for the business communities in mid-April.

After a general introduction, the participants had the opportunity to exchange views during two roundtables. The first one was about the enablers and challenges of doing business in Botswana, whereas the second roundtable focused on the economic diversification as a solution to tackle youth unemployment.

This session allowed very interesting debates about the current political and economic situation in Botswana. It was followed by an informal lunch offered by the Ambassador of France to Botswana.

The following day, the Ambassador and Patrick Benon, CEO of Orange Botswana and councilor for external trade, went to Johannesburg where they met up with representatives of French companies willing to invest in Botswana.
