Closing of a two-day workshop on French teaching at the residence of France
The closing of the two-day workshop on the French teaching in Botswana was held at the residence of France in Botswana last Friday 11 of August. The seminar, which gathered all the stakeholders of the French teaching in Botswana, was organized by the French teachers association of Botswana, in collaboration with the University of Botswana, the Alliance Française de Gaborone, and the French Embassy to Botswana. The purpose was to debate and exchange views on the teaching and the promotion of the French language in Botswana, through several workshops and lectures.
Over the past years, the French language progressively became a real option as a foreign language in Botswana’s educational system. Nowadays, more than forty schools propose French lessons to their pupils, and there are around a hundred of French teachers in Botswana.
The Ambassador of France to Botswana, H.E Mr. Pierre Voillery, insisted on the necessity to coordinate the initiatives between the many actors involved in the teaching of French in Botswana. The enthusiasm that marked this event is clear evidence that there is a common determination to give a fresh impetus to the French teaching and learning in Botswana.
The minister of Basic Education, Ms. Unity Dow, who honored us with her presence, encouraged that initiative. She expressed her wish that the good political relations between France and Botswana could help to boost the bilateral cooperation in the educational area, through the instalment of new projects aiming at reinforcing the teaching of French in Botswana.
