France’s commitment in favour of universal abolition of the death penalty is one of the top priorities of its foreign policy in terms of Human Rights. France is deeply involved in favour of abolition, as a sovereign country and as a member of the European Union.

On the occasion of the 11th World Day against death penalty, the Embassy of France to Botswana, along with the European Union delegation, the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany and the British High Commission, is supporting an event hosted by Ditshwanelo, a Botswana-based NGO advocating for Human Rights. It aims at fostering debate on the death penalty issue which is still enforced in Botswana.

Members of « Murder Victims’ Families for Human Rights » (MVFHR), an American NGO gathering families of victims and “murderers”, are invited to be part of an open talk on death penalty. Students of the University of Botswana will also present a play on this subject.
